When Artec blocks meet traditional Chinese architecture

The P.5 iPlus classes were transformed into mini traditional architecture workshops! Using Artec blocks, our students built mortise and tenon joints as well as dougong (bracket sets) models with their own hands. From interlocking the wooden tenon with the mortise to layering the cantilevered dougong structures, they experienced firsthand the wisdom of ancient Chinese architecture: being sturdy and load-bearing without a single nail. Traditional craftsmanship isn't just found in textbooks - it can come alive right in their hands. Through hands-on practice, the students not only learned the concepts (mortise, tenon, dougong, etc.) and their beauty but also practiced observation, problem-solving, teamwork and perseverance. The sense of accomplishment on their faces was the best proof of learning!
