Music Campus Programme – Visit by Greater Bay Philharmonic

On 17th June, Greater Bay Philharmonic visited our school and presented a promotional performance on “Instruments and Classical Music” for all our students. The programme featured a wonderful selection of familiar pieces, ranging from animated classics such as My Neighbor Totoro, Doraemon, and Beauty and the Beast, to film music including Pirates of the Caribbean, Mamma Mia, All I Ask of You (from The Phantom of the Opera), and Maria and Tonight (from West Side Story). Six members of our orchestra took part in a master class at recess. Under the guidance of two professional instructors, they learned performance techniques, such as keeping the arm muscles relaxed when playing fast and repeated rhythms to produce melodious sounds. The instructors also emphasized the relationship between expression of emotion and dynamics in music. The session was truly rewarding.
